Meet Our Flock

Every hen at Sara’s Pick of the Coop is special, each is an individual, and each is treated with great care. The flock consists of a wide variety of breeds, this is because different breeds lay different colored eggs.  Check out photos of the flock here!

Meet Sara, the Chicken Wrangler!

For me, it all started when I was six years old. My dad came home from a hiking trip with a hen that he had found wandering the mountains. That hen taught me that chickens have unique personalities and brought me to enjoy raising them. I was known to my teacher in elementary school as “Chicken Woman”, because I always brought my baby chicks for show and tell. With the support of my family, I was able to learn about chickens hands on! By the age of fifteen I had 200+ chickens and was selling fresh eggs at the local farmer’s markets. It was a good feeling to be doing something I loved while at the same time contributing to my community. I had to leave the business behind when I left for Colorado State University, but now that I have finished my degrees in Animal Science and Agricultural Business, I want nothing more than to live the American Dream. I want to wake up every morning with the satisfaction that I am doing what I love and what I am good at.

I love the beautifully colored eggs in each cartons of Sara’s Pick of the Coop eggs! Not only do they taste great but I can rest easy knowing these hens are living the high life! home-eggs Linda C.

I am emailing to tell you that I absolutely love my eggs! After a horrible experience with another provider, I found your website and called. I couldn’t believe when they put the owner on the phone to speak with me personally! You made me feel so much better and confident that I would have the perfect eggs for my family! Chris H.

The Cost of Fresh Eggs

“Your eggs cost six dollars?!” I get this all the time. The fact is you can get cheaper eggs at the supermarket. So why do mine cost more?   Let’s talk about commercial eggs, the ones you can buy for $1.89 a dozen at any supermarket. These eggs come from hens...

Don’t judge a book by it’s cover

I am asked, far too often, if I will sell a customer only brown eggs. My answer is always no! Let me explain why… In the egg business there is one misconception I come across again and again and I’d like to address it today. All eggs are not created the same; there...
